Lori Lindsey Named WPS Player of the Month for April

Philadelphia midfielder Lori Lindsey was named WPS Player of the Month for April. Lindsey recorded assists on all 4 Independence goals for the month in leading them to a 1-0-2 record for April, good for a 3rd place tie for the expansion team.

Lindsey was taken by Philadelphia in the expansion draft after spending the 2009 season with the Washington Freedom where she had 2 goals and an assist. The Freedom may regret not protecting Lindsey, after she set a WPS mark for assists in one game with 3, the first time the two teams met in the regular season on April 25. The Independence recorded their first ever win in that contest.

Saint Louis Athletica goalkeeper Hope Solo was second in the voting, which is weighted equally among fans voting online (33%), media (33%) and team vote (33%). Also receiving considerable votes were Kelly Smith (Boston Breakers) and Abby Wambach (Washington Freedom). The WPS Player of the Month is given at the end of each month throughout the WPS Regular Season.
