Gold Pride Takes 1st Place, Independence Remains Undefeated


FC Gold Pride took over sole possession of 1st place by defeating Sky Blue FC 1-0 in New Jersey. Gold Pride's goal was scored on a free kick. Camille Abily took the free kick from about 35 yards with Carrie Dew heading the ball back toward the middle and Christine Sinclair finishing. Earlier, Karen Bardsley had kept the score 0-0 by saving a penalty by Abily and the ensuing rebound at point blank range by Marta.

In Philadelphia, Player of the Month Lori Lindsey turned from assist-machine to goal scorer giving the Independence their 2nd win in a row, this time over fellow expansion team, the Atlanta Beat.

Chicago got their first win of the season, and on the road at that, shutting out Boston 2-0. Casey Nogueira and Cristiane scored for the Red Stars and Jill Loyden earned the shutout.

Finally in Washington, the Freedom continued their dominance over Saint Louis with a 3-1 victory, in a game where all 4 goals were scored by internationals. Sonia Bompastor opened the scoring, but Eni Aluko tied the score just before halftime. After the break, Washington got goals from Homare Sawa and Lene Mykjåland to lead them to the win.
