Whitworth Traded To Red Stars

The Atlanta Beat have traded goalkeeper Allison Whitworth to the Chicago Red Stars. The Red Stars will also get Atlanta's 1st and 4th round picks in the 2011 draft, while Atlanta will receive Chicago's 1st and 4th round picks in the 2012 draft.

Atlanta had traded draft picks to obtain Whitworth last October and she was expected to be Atlanta's number one keeper. However, a few games into the season, Brett Maron took over as the starter and then the Beat later signed Hope Solo.

Chicago found themselves in need of a backup keeper after Kelsey Davis was put on season-ending injured reserve.

Whitworth had started 3 matches for Atlanta, facing 29 shots on goal and giving up 5 goals for a 1.67 goals against average.
