Chicago Red Stars' defender Jill Oakes is expecting her first child and will miss the 2010 season. Oakes is the 2nd Chicago defender to miss a season because of pregnancy. Last year, Kate Markgraf, one of Chicago's allocated USWNT players, missed the entire season.
Oakes was originally drafted by Gold Pride in the WPS General Draft in October of 2008 but was later cut and signed with the Red Stars, where she became a starting defender. She played 15 games for the Red Stars, starting 13 of them, and became a mainstay on Chicago's solid back line.
