After a long wait, the Red Stars have re-signed Brazilian star Cristiane for 2010. Cristiane was the Red Stars leading scorer last season and a member of the WPS All-Star team, as well as being a finalist for the FIFA Player of the Year.
Cristiane ended up 4th in the WPS in goals in 2009. She scored 7 goals, trailing only Marta, Camille Abily, and Abby Wambach in that category. She played in 18 matches for the Red Stars, starting 14 of them. She is the only WPS player to have scored a hat trick in league action, scoring 3 times on July 12th against FC Gold Pride.
The signing of Cristiane gives the Red Stars their maximum of 5 international players. The others are Karen Carney, Caroline Jönsson, Katie Chapman, and Kosovare Asllani.
It will be interesting to see how this signing will affect Chicago's approach to tomorrow's draft in Philadelphia.
